Brandy Mayweather
Brandy is an award winning multidisciplinary visual artist, creative curator, and live painter based in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Her work explores the beautifully complicated spaces between Black womanhood, motherhood, healing, identity, joy, grief, and human connection.
Known for her vibrant use of color and emotionally expressive portraiture, Brandy creates work that feels both deeply personal and universally familiar. Her evolving visual language combines bold color, movement, pattern, and figurative storytelling to transform experiences that are sometimes difficult to put into words into something that can be seen and felt.
Her practice extends beyond traditional canvas work into interactive installations, live painting, public and community-based art, and immersive creative experiences. Whether creating independently or alongside a community, Brandy is especially interested in what happens when art becomes more than something we simply look at when it becomes a place to gather, remember, process, celebrate, and connect.
Her work and creative projects have taken her from community spaces in Grand Rapids to exhibitions and opportunities beyond Michigan, while remaining rooted in the stories and experiences that shaped her.
At the center of Brandy's practice is a simple belief.
Art doesn't always have to make something beautiful out of life. Sometimes it simply needs to tell the truth about it.
Through every painting, installation, and experience, she invites people to see themselves, feel something, and perhaps leave a little more connected than they arrived.
